A recent article in the ROSIE magazine gave some ideas on how to help your child excel at homework.
I thought that it was very good and wanted to share it with all of you.
Parents need to set the stage for studying at home.
Create an environment where your child can do homework with minimal interruption and distractions.
Start with these tips from the National PTA:
- Plan "quiet time" for the family every day.
- Schedule homework at a time that works for both the child and the family. Some kids like to do homework right after school and some may need a break.
- Help your child set up a study area. This can be in any room, depending on whether the child prefers to study alone or around others.
- Resist the impulse to do the work. Doing a child’s homework may hinder comprehension of the material. Advise your child without taking over the project.
- Keep in mind homework’s higher purpose; it gives a child the opportunity to work independently, develop self-discipline, and cultivate a love of learning.
Hope these are some helpful tips for your student and family.
