This is a very exciting week in First Grade. We received our reading books today. Our first story in the book in called, The Hat. It is a story about two friends that go out on a windy day. The wind blows away the hat of one of the friends. The other friend helps her catch it. The students will be able to read the story on their own probably by the first day. Please listen to your child read the story on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Then sign the bookmark for those nights after your child has read the story to you. On Wednesday, I will send home their Take Home Book. They will need to read it that night and have it signed on the back by an adult. The vocabulary words in the hardback reader are listed at the beginning of the story. They are also highlighted throughout the story. This will be helpful to both students and parents. The students will have to be able to read the vocabulary words to me on Fridays. They will also have a small vocabulary test on Fridays where they have to put the correct vocabulary word in a sentence. The vocabulary words for The Hat are: up, down, got Each week the students will need to know how to spell 10 words. The first 6 words are new, the next two words will be review from last week, and the final two words are vocabulary words from the previous week. The spelling words for this week are: at, hat, cat, can, cap, tap, map, mad, a, the In math, we will continue working with patterns and addition. Last week we worked with adding zero and this week we will work with adding one. Please send in the flashcards that were sent home at the end of the kindergarten year. Have a wonderful week!!!
