(*Parents and children may alternate reading aloud, which benefits reading fluency and comprehension.)

“Summer of Fire”.  Be sure to read the story and review the vocab words.

We will test Thursday, December 13th.

AR requirements for 5th Grade are “6 points per month”.  Mr. Grumley and I are VERY PROUD of the students who have gone "above and beyond" with reading. Keep it up! J

*Science and Social Studies:

We will read and review each lesson, daily, while following along with notes and activities. At times, students will be required to fill in notes for homework, which are taken directly from the reading or experiences.

*These notes and lesson reviews are extremely important and will be study guides for the tests.

*Math

Our new Math series provides a great deal of information, new and old, as well as practice for our students. At times we will work to complete 1-3 lessons a day, with review to follow. Each lesson gives useful information in the book, as well as on the worksheets, part of which are assigned for homework.

*The worksheets should be saved and referred to as cumulative tests/end of Chapter tests arrive, in order to review and reteach the skills that have been discussed.

J Please encourage independent work with shared review.J

*Homework is an opportunity to

reinforce particular skills at home,

which are being taught in school. We review our own homework

the day it is due, in order to see where we were successful

and/or made mistakes. It is best to solve our own problems,

rather than confuse them with somebody else's!

J Learning takes place best through positive reinforcement! J

*If a child becomes frustrated while doing homework, please allow a short break or have a calm discussion over the issue.
