Mrs. Porkolab's Newsletter:
Welcome to 5th grade! It's going to be a wonderful
year!!
Don't forget to check your child's homework planner, every night!!
Don't forget to work on your Accelerated Reading points for this
month. You are to obtain 6 points by the end of September. Many of our students have already
obtained this goal!
We're ready for a great year! Make sure to take home your student
planner and homework folder every day, and to check your work each night.
Complete all assignments, and turn them in the next day!
**Just a reminder, our monthly Book-IT and Accelerated
goals are set for 6 points
each month. Don't wait until the last minute!!
~Throughout the school year,
your child should be working on their multiplication and division basic facts.
These should be mastered by the end of the year.

~Oral reading is also another
important part of grade five, especially fluency and comprehension. Encourage
your child to read every day. Also, stress the importance of such reading
programs as: Book-It and Accelerated Reader.
~Your child can also be working
on their writing skills at home. Encourage them to do any of the following:
keeping a journal, writing pen-pal letters, writing different kinds of poetry,
or even creating their own stories. Any kind of repetitive writing is essential
at this age level.
~I am already so very PROUD of my
students!! They are such hard workers, and have already achieved tremendously
this school year. Keep up your wonderful work with them, moms and dads. I'm
proud of you, as well!!
